Kilcoo, County Down born outside right Paddy Kelly began his football career with Belfast Celtic with whom he won the Irish League in 1919-20. He was sold to Manchester City in October 1920, making his Football League debut at Huddersfield Town that November, and he won his only Ireland cap in a match against England at Roker Park, Sunderland in October 1920. In March 1922 he suffered a season ending injury in a match at Chelsea. He only played twice more for Manchester City in January 1923, having scored 3 goals in 29 matches, before spending 1923-24 at West Ham United where he didn’t make the first eleven. He returned to Ireland to join Cork side Fordson’s in 1924, and won the FAI Cup with them in 1926, and while with Fordson’s he was capped by The League of Ireland in 1925.
