Description
Ashton-in-Makerfield, Lancashire born centre half Bob Kearney began his football career in Scottish junior football with Burnbank Athletic in 1921 and Kirkintilloch Rob Roy in 1922, from where he joined Scottish League club Dundee in 1923, playing six seasons for The Dark Blues. He was signed by First Division club Portsmouth in the 1929 close season, making his Football League debut at Leeds United that September, where he was a regular for two seasons. However he tragically died of pneumonia after a short illness in February 1931 at the age of only 28, having made 65 appearances for Portsmouth.
