Mossley Common born goalkeeper Tom Kay joined Bolton Wanderers from local football in February 1915, but didn’t play for their first team before World War One forced the suspension of peacetime football. After the War he joined Second Division Stoke in August 1919, making his Football League debut against Barnsley at the end of the same month, and being ever present that season in the Stoke goal. However he lost his place in February 1921 and although he started the following season’s first 5 games, his professional career ended after 76 appearances for The Potters.
