Description

Prestonpans, Lothian born centre forward Bill Joyce started his professional football career with Scottish club Greenock Morton in 1893, joining First Division Bolton Wanderers in March 1895 and making his Football League debut at Nottingham Forest the same month. He had 3 seasons at Burnden Park, unluckily suffering a broken leg in 1896, scoring 18 goals in 33 appearances, before joining Southern League Tottenham Hotspur in 1897. After 2 years with Spurs where he scored  26 goals in 38 games, he joined Thames Ironworks, soon to be West Ham United, scoring 18 goals in 35 appearances during 1899-1900 before joining Portsmouth in the 1900 close season. In August 1901 he returned to the Football League with Second Division Burton United, scoring 21 goals in 58 games over the next 2 seasons before returning to Scotland in 1903 to re-join Morton. He spent a season with them before finishing his career with Motherwell.
