Description

West Bromwich, Staffordshire born inside forward John Jones began his football career with Sandwell Albion in 1891, playing for Dudley in 1892 and Halesowen in 1893 before joining First Division Small Heath (now Birmingham City), for whom he made his Football League debut against West Bromwich Albion in February 1895, his only appearance in his debut season.

He scored 9 goals in 18 appearances in 1895-96, including a hat-trick in an 8-0 thumping of Manchester City in the Test Match series, but in spite of this Birmingham were relegated. Jones had a further season in the Second Division, but after 18 goals in 39 appearances he joined Southern League Bristol Rovers in the summer of 1897.

He had three seasons at Eastville before joining Southern League champions Tottenham Hotspur in 1900, where he scored 21 goals in 37 Southern League and FA Cup appearances but didn’t play in their successful 1901 FA Cup run, before ending his football career in 1904.
