Monkwearmouth, Sunderland born outside right Len Jobling began his football career with Roker Wednesday in 1901, and played for Sunderland Co-operative in 1903 before joining Spennymoor United in 1909. He joined Carlisle United later the same year and had a brief spell on the books of Sheffield United from March 1910 until he was signed by Norwich City, now managed by his former Carlisle United manager Bertie Stansfield.

He did well enough at The Nest to persuade First Division club Manchester City to sign him in 1912, and he made his Football League debut in a win over Notts County on 2nd January 1913, also playing two days later in a defeat at Aston Villa. These proved his only appearances for The Citizens’ first team, and he transferred to North Eastern League club Hartlepools United in the summer of 1913, his last known club.
