Sometimes known as Sandy, full back Sam Hynds began his football career with Clydebank Juniors from where he signed for Scottish First Division club Motherwell in 1935. He played 22 matches for Motherwell over three seasons before he signed for Dunfermline in 1938 under their first ever player-manager, Peter Wilson. Like many other footballers at the time, his career was effectively ended by the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939.
