Description

Liverpool born inside forward Ben Hulse played for Liverpool South End in 1895 and Rock Ferry in 1896 before joining First Division Blackburn Rovers, for whom he made his Football League debut that September, scoring in a 2-1 defeat at Stoke. He soon became a regular in the Blackburn team, scoring twelve goals the following season as Rovers finished 6th in the League, with Hulse the club’s second top scorer. His three seasons at Ewood Park saw him score 25 goals in 93 appearances, before a move back to Merseyside in the summer of 1900 to join New Brighton Tower, for whom he top scored with 15 goals in 32 appearances, including a hat-trick against Walsall. Despite this Tower withdrew from the League at the end of the season and Hulse moved to Southern League Millwall Athletic, where he became club captain. One notable feat saw him score 8 goals with goals in each of the first 6 games of the 1903-04 season. He joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 1904 and retired from playing thereafter.
