Description

Annfield Plain, County Durham born outside right Archie Heslop began his football career with South Pontop Villa in 1925 and played for Annfield Plain in 1926 before signing for First Division Burnley in 1927, making his Football League debut at Aston Villa in February 1928, his only appearance of his debut season. He remained on the fringe at Turf Moor in 1928-29, but broke into the team on a regular basis in December 1929 after Jack Bruton was transferred to Blackburn Rovers, although he couldn’t prevent Burnley being relegated at the end of the season.

He left The Clarets in the summer of 1930 after 4 goals in 25 appearances, joining north east non league club West Stanley, but returned to Football League action in October when he joined Third Division (South) club Luton Town. He had two seasons at Kenilworth Road, scoring 7 goals in 27 appearances before returning to the north east to join non league Spennymoor United in 1932.
