Description

Born in Dundee, left half Bill Henderson played for junior local club Norwood before signing with hometown Scottish League club. Dundee, for whom he signed in 1905 and scored once in 45 appearances over the next two seasons. He then transferred to Heart of Midlothian, joining them in March 1907, and made his debut in a draw against Aberdeen at Tynecastle in the middle of the April, his next game being the 1907 Scottish Cup Final which Hearts lost 3-0 to Celtic at Hampden Park.

Henderson scored 3 goals in 24 appearances for The Jambos, but transferred to Southern League New Brompton (now Gillingham) in the summer of 1908, playing a single season at Priestfield. He was then sold to First Division club Bradford City in July 1909, making his Football League debut at Manchester United the same September. But he struggled to get into The Bantams’ first eleven and played only 3 more matches over the rest of the season and none in 1910-11 as Bradford City famously won the FA Cup, joining Second Division club Grimsby Town in the 1911 close season.

But he had little more involvement at Blundell Park, playing twice early season and twice late season during their 1911-12 campaign before a transfer to Midland League Scunthorpe & Lindsey United for the 1912-13 season. There followed a return to Scottish football with Dundee Hibernian (later to be re-named Dundee United) in 1913, his final club before his eventual retirement.
