Description

Glasgow born outside left Jimmy Hannah played for Third Lanark in 1888 and from there joined Sunderland Albion a year later, moving to Sunderland in 1891 and making his Football League debut against Everton in a 2-1 victory in October 1891. A member of the “Team of All Talents”, he scored 20 goals in his first season as Sunderland were crowned League Champions in 1892, scoring 19 times the next season as they retained their title, and 14 goals in 1894-95 as they won the Championship for a 3rd time in four seasons, being only behind Johnny Campbell in the goalscoring charts.

When he re-joined Third Lanark in 1897 he had scored 76 goals in 173 appearances for The Wearsiders. He returned to England in 1899 for a year at Southern League club Queen’s Park Rangers before finishing his career with Dykehead whom he joined in 1900, and with Sunderland Royal Rovers, his final club, joining them in 1901. Hannah won his sole Scotland cap while at Third Lanark, playing against Wales on 15th April 1889 in a 0-0 draw at The Racecourse Ground, Wrexham.
