Description

Denaby Main, Yorkshire born inside or outside right Ted Hancock began his footbal career with Midland League club Denaby United in 1926, joining Gainsborough Trinity in 1929, from where he was signed by First Division club Liverpool in January 1931, making his Football League debut against Huddersfield Town in March 1932. He played in the last nine League matches of their 1931-32 First Division campaign, scoring twice, but didn’t feature again in their first eleven before being sold to Second Division club Burnley in February 1933,  then under the guidance of former Red, Tom Bromilow, where Hancock enjoyed regular football until September 1936, scoring 31 goals in 123 appearances for The Clarets.

Having lost his place he moved on to Luton Town at the year end and helped them to win the 1937 Third Division (South) Championship, but he lost his place back in the Second Division in September and played only 3 more matches for The Hatters, joining non league Northwich Victoria later that year after 3 goals in 27 matches for Luton. Hancock returned to Football League action in the 1938 close season when he signed for Third Division (North) club Lincoln City and scored 5 goals in 33 appearances during their 1938-39 campaign before leaving to join non league Frickley Colliery in the summer of 1939, the outbreak of the Second World War later that year effectively ending his football career.
