Burslem born full back James “Snowy” Hamilton played for Burslem Town in 1903 and joined hometown Second Division Club Burslem Port Vale soon thereafter making his Football League debut at Stockport County in April 1904. He soon became a regular performer and after 4 seasons at Vale having made 104 appearances, however he was forced to leave the Athletic Ground after the club went into liquidation in 1907 and he joined Oldham Athletic in the 1907 close season. He was part of their 1909-10 team that gained promotion to the First Division as Second Division runners up, but only played a single season in the First Division playing his last game in February 1911 and (possibly through injury) retiring after 6 goals in 115 appearances.
