Description

Musselburgh, East Lothian born winger Billy Hamilton started his football career with junior clubs Tollcross YMCA in 1921, Vale of Clyde in 1922, Shettleston in 1923 and Bellshill Athletic in 1924 before joining Second Division Bradford City in August 1925, making his Football League debut at Nottingham Forest in February 1926, his only appearance in his debut season. He played 12 more games the next season, scoring 3 goals, before joining Southport in July 1927 after the Bantams’ relegation. He had a single season at Haig Avenue scoring 8 times in 33 appearances before moving to Accrington Stanley in June 1929, and missed only one game in 1929-30, being the club’s second top goalscorer with 14 goals from 43 appearances in the season. This brought him a move to Notts County in June 1930, but he only made 2 appearances for The Magpies later on in the season (in which they won the Third Division (South) Championship), before returning to Scotland to join Alloa Athletic in the summer of 1931.
