Description

Marsden, South Shields, Tyneside born wing half Jack Grimwood had joined his home town club South Shields, then playing in the North Eastern League, before the First World War but on resumption of peacetime football he joined First Division club Manchester United in May 1919, making his Football League debut in the derby at Manchester City that October, playing at right half.

Over the next eight years he played across the half back line for The Red Devils, most regularly at left half but in all three positions, he helped them to promotion back to the First Division in 1925 as Second Division runners up after their relegation in 1922, and made 205 appearances for United, scoring 8 goals before he joined non-league Aldershot Town in 1927.

Later that year he returned to Football League action when he joined Second Division Blackpool, making 7 appearances for The Seasiders between September and the year end. In 1928 he joined Cheshire County League Altrincham, and later played for Taylor Brothers in 1929 before his eventual retirement.
