Willington Quay, Northumberland born centre forward Tommy Griffiths began his football career with Willington St Aidan’s from where he was signed by Third Division (North) club Lincoln City in August 1922, making his Football League debut at Halifax Town the same month, scoring in a 3-1 defeat. He kept his place in Lincoln’s team until early February, scoring 7 goals in 24 appearances including a brace as The Imps won 3-1 at Barrow in January 1923, however after he lost his place he was released in the summer and joined North Eastern League club Jarrow.
After unsuccessful trials with Darlington and Hartlepools United, he signed for Ashington in June 1923 and made a single appearance for them playing in their first game of the season in a defeat at Wrexham that August. Later in the same year he returned to play for Jarrow, and this is his last known club.
