Wednesfield, Staffordshire born right half Hillary Griffiths began his football career with Wednesfield Rovers in 1888 before joining Football League club Wolverhampton Wanderers, for whom he made his debut against Bolton Wanderers in March 1890. He was a fringe player until the start of the 1893-94 season, when he missed only two matches.

He was a member of Wolves’ 1896 FA Cup Final team that was beaten 2-1 by Sheffield Wednesday at The Crystal Palace. He was a regular in Wolves’ first team until the end of the 1899-1900 season but played only once more, in the Black Country derby match against West Bromwich Albion in September 1900, before his retirement after a single goal, scored in a 4-2 win over Stoke in February 1898, in 201 appearances for Wolverhampton Wanderers.
