Cirencester born centre forward Arthur Victor “Tony” Gough started his football career with junior club Swindon Victoria in 1922 and spent 1923-24 with Bristol Rovers without making a senior appearance for the first eleven. He then moved to Brighton & Hove Albion for whom he made his Football League debut against Merthyr Town in November 1925, scoring 4 goals in 9 appearances during his debut season. However he only played once more for Brighton in April 1927, and joined Walsall. He had a single season at Fellows Park scoring 7 goals in 19 appearances during 1928-29, before moving to mid Wales to join Merthyr Town. In what turned out to be their final League season, he scored 4 goals in 12 appearances before finishing with the professional game in 1930.
