Middlesbrough born right back Tony Franks began his football career with West Hartlepool in 1908 and played for Greatham in 1910, Christ Church in 1911 and Spennymoor United in 1913 prior to the First World War. After the War he joined Hartlepools United, and after their elevation to League status in 1921, Franks made his Football League debut against Southport in September 1921. He was their regular right back in 1921-22 making 35 appearances, but last played for The Monkey Hangers on Christmas Day 1922, losing his place (through injury?) after 46 appearances for Hartlepools United. His career thereafter is unknown.
