Description

Glasgow born left back Matt Forsyth began his football career with Shotts Battlefield and played for Hampden and Glasgow Perthshire, where Forsyth was capped for Scotland as a junior international in a match against England, and from where he was signed by Scottish League club Aberdeen in May 1920, making his Scottish League debut at Third Lanark in August 1920. Forsyth had a loan spell with Dumbarton Harp in August 1923 and had five seasons as a regular in the Aberdeen first eleven, being a reserve at international level on several occasions without winning a Scottish cap, However he played only twice in 1925-26, perhaps/almost certainly due to injury.

Forsyth was one of Aberdeen’s first recipients of a benefit game, a 4-4 draw against a former Aberdeen select in 1926. He was released at the end of April that year after 185 appearances for Aberdeen and joined Highland League club Forres Mechanics, where he played for two seasons, finishing his career with a season at Keith during 1928-29.
