Northwich, Cheshire born left half Tommy Forster began his football career with hometown Lancashire Combination club Northwich Victoria in 1914, and after the First World War he signed for First Division Manchester United in 1919, making his Football League debut at Burnley that November. He made only four further appearances during his debut season but established himself as a regular in the United line-up from October 1920, playing 27 matches during the campaign as United finished 13th in the League. However he returned to the fringes the following season as United suffered relegation, and he left Old Trafford in the 1922 close season to re-join Northwich Victoria, where he played out the rest of his career having made 36 appearances in total for The Red Devils.
