Monifieth, Angus born outside right Alex Ferguson played for Lochee Harp in 1933 before joining Scottish League outfit St Johnstone in 1934. He had a loan spell with Hibernian in 1935 before signing for cross city rivals Heart of Midlothian in 1936, making his Jambos debut in August 1936 against Dunfermline Athletic. He scored 4 goals in 18 games for Hearts and joined Rochdale in July 1939, playing once at Doncaster Rovers in August 1939 before the 1939-40 season was abandoned due to the advent of the Second World War.
