Bathgate, Lothian born goalkeeper Thomas “Chick” Farr began his football career with Bathgate Auld Toon Thistle and played for Blackburn Athletic in 1933 from where he was signed by Second Division club Bradford Park Avenue in September 1934, making his Football League debut against Notts County in November that year. Farr soon established himself as The Avenue’s principal glovesman, taking over from incumbent Jack Bell, and he was an ever present in the final two seasons before the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939 forced the abandonment of peacetime football.
After the resolution of the conflict, Farr returned to Bradford Park Avenue and played 8 matches in their 1946 FA Cup campaign, and when League football resumed he was Bradford’s principal goalkeeper in each of the first four post war seasons, being an ever present in Bradford’s 1948-49 campaign. After 315 appearances for Park Avenue, Farr retired in the summer of 1950.
He was the son of Robert Farr, who played for Albion Rovers, Heart of Midlothian and Cowdenbeath before the First World War.
