Description

Ton Pentre, Rhondda Valley born right half Tom Evans began his career at Welsh club Ton Pentre in 1925 before joining non league Leytonstone in 1926. In 1927 he made the move to First Division  Tottenham Hotspur’s books, but soon after Evans joined Spurs’ nursery club Northfleet in 1928 before re-joining the Spurs in 1929, by when Spurs had been relegated. He made his Football League debut at Southampton in December 1929 and helped Tottenham to promotion in 1933-34 when they finished as Second Division runners up, although it was only in the following two seasons that he played with regularity, averaging 30 games a season once they had returned to the First Division. However when they were relegated in 1935 he fell out of favour, and having scored 4 goals in 102 appearances he left Spurs in 1937 for West Bromwich Albion, where he spent 1937-38 in the reserves without ever making a first team appearance, before finishing his professional career.

NB In the photograph he is shown standing on the left with Arthur Rowe and Tommy Meads.
