Description

Thrapston, Northamptonshire born right half Frederick “Teddy” Emberton played for Stafford Wesleyans in 1901 and Stafford Rangers in 1902 from where he joined First Division club Notts County, making his Football League debut at Preston North End in October 1904. Ever present in 1906-07 and 1908-09, he was noted for his skill, speed and resourcefulness and was a vital member of the team throughout his career, he developed into a Magpies stalwart and his career was only ended by the advent of the First World War (when he served his country in the Armed Forces), with only one season spent in the Second Division after their relegation in 1913, after which he was also an ever present as Notts County won the 1913-14 Second Division Championship to regain their status in the top flight at the first time of asking. He retired from football having scored 3 goals in 382 appearances for The Magpies over eleven seasons.
