Parkhead, Glasgow born inside right Bob Ellis began his football career with Vale of Leven, from where he signed for Lancashire Combination club Workington in 1907. He clearly impressed during his season at Lonsdale Park, being signed by First Division club Blackburn Rovers in the 1908 close season. He made his Football League debut, scoring in a 1-1 draw against Bristol City at Ewood Park at the start of September 1908 in Blackburn’s first match of the new season, however despite getting on the scoresheet for whatever reason he never managed to get back into Rovers’ first eleven over the following two seasons and returned to Workington in 1910, his last recorded club.
