Description

Tipton, Staffordshire born left half Jimmy Edwards started his football career as an inside left with junior clubs Tipton Park in 1921, Newport Foundry in 1922, Stourbridge in 1923 and Newport Foundry in 1924, before returning to Stourbridge in 1925. He joined Second Division club West Bromwich Albion for a £350 fee in May 1926 and made his Football League debut for the club at Hull City in March 1928, his only appearance of his debut season. He played two further seasons at inside left before establishing himself as a regular member of the Albion line up at left half from September 1930.

He was a member of the team that won the FA Cup in 1931 and also promotion to the Football League First Division in the same year, finishing as Second Division runners up, Edwards making 50 appearances alone that season and missing only a single match for The Baggies. He continued as a regular inclusion in the first team line up until May 1935, playing in Albion’s 1935 FA Cup Final 4-2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley. But in 1935-36 he only made 11 appearances after losing his place in September 1935, and the following season only one. In May 1937 he moved to Norwich City for £750 after 9 goals in 201 appearances for West Bromwich Albion but played only twice in The Canaries’ first team in November 1937 before his retirement from the professional game.
