Dave Edwards had kept goal for Rutherglen Glencairn in 1919 when they won the Scottish Junior Cup and thereafter had joined Greenock Morton. He was in goal when Morton surprised Glasgow Rangers to win the 1922 Scottish Cup Final in front of 75,000 spectators at Hampden Park with a goal by Jimmy Gourlay, still the club’s only major trophy.

In August 1926 Edwards signed with Bethlehem Steel of the American Soccer League and played for four years in the nascent American Leagues. He returned to Scotland with Morton in the summer of 1930, before joining Cowdenbeath in February 1931. He then spent a final season with Dundee in 1932-33 before retirement.
