Description
Accrington born right half Tom Duxbury had joined his local professional club, Accrington Stanley, in 1919, moving to Preston North End before Accrington joined The Football League in 1921, and making his League debut for Preston at Bolton Wanderers in April 1921. Once he got his break in the first eleven that October however, he didn’t miss many games and notably played all 8 cup ties as Preston went all the way to the 1922 FA Cup Final at Stamford Bridge on 29th April, narrowly losing to Huddersfield Town. He scored his only goal the following season at Oldham Athletic but increasingly limited opportunities led to his leaving Preston in 1924 and joining newly promoted Leeds United after 59 appearances. However the emergence of Willis Edwards meant that he was only selected twice by Leeds that autumn and he joined non league Fleetwood in 1926.
