Locally born centre forward Peter Donaghy had been playing for Teeside junior club Grangetown St Mary’s prior to World War One but after the War he joined Middlesbrough, making his First Division debut at Bradford City in April 1920. However in 4 seasons at Ayresome Park opportunities were limited and after 2 goals in 32 games he moved to Second Division Bradford City in the summer of 1923. However his impact at Valley Parade was also limited, scoring 5 goals in 23 appearances in his 2 seasons in Bradford, before he joined non league Carlisle United in 1925.
