Falkirk, Stirlingshire born goalkeeper James “Jerry” Dawson began his career playing with local side Camelon Juniors, before turning professional with Glasgow Rangers in November 1929. making his Scottish League debut against St Mirren in January 1931. Described as “wonderfully reliable” and “one of the happiest players in the game, and the game’s biggest wise-cracker”, he was capped 14 times by Scotland between October 1934, when he made his Scotland debut in a 2-1 defeat to Ireland at Windsor Park, Belfast, and his final appearance which came in a 2-1 defeat to England at Hampden Park in April 1939. He also appeared 11 times for the The Scottish League between October 1931 and October 1941.
