Description

Earlestown, St Helens, Lancashire born centre forward George Davies started his football career with Earlestown Bohemians in 1936 and signed for Second Division clubBury in August 1937, making his Football League debut against Manchester United in September 1937 and immediately getting on and around the scoresheet by bagging 26 goals in his 30 match debut season, which included a hat-trick against Chesterfield in February 1938 and left him as by far the club’s leading goalscorer that season.

While he didn’t prove as prolific in 1938-39 as he suffered injury problems, he remained the club’s leading marksman with 10 goals in 27 appearances but moved on to Stockport County in July 1939. However the Second World War intervened before he had made his County debut and after the War he briefly returned to Bury bagging 3 goals in 4 appearances in their 1946 FA Cup campaign, before joining non league Northwich Victoria later in 1946. He later re-joined Earlestown in 1950.
