Description

Prescot, Lancashire born left half George Davies began his football career with hometown club Prescot after the First World War and joined a long line of players from the town who were signed by Second Division Hull City, Davies signing for The Tigers in the 1920 close season. A fringe player during his two seasons at Anlaby Road, he made his Football League debut against Stockport County in February 1921 but only managed 10 further first team appearances before joining Merthyr Town in the 1922 close season, making 18 appearances during a single season in Wales.

Joining Grimsby Town in September 1923, he scored his only senior career goal in a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley in April 1924, but found himself a fringe player at Blundell Park, making just 6 appearances a season for The Mariners before a move into non league football with Whiston in 1925. He enjoyed a varied non league career moving on to Llandudno in 1926 and playing for Caernarvon Athletic in 1927, Ashton National in 1928 and finally Northwich Victoria in 1929 before his retirement.
