Description
Winger George Davies was born in Wellington, Shropshire, and joined Second Division Birmingham from Ironbridge in 1919, making his Football League debut at Wolves that November. His opportunities at Birmingham were limited although he scored 5 goals in 10 games during their 1920-21 promotion season, picking up a Second Division Championship medal. However he only played 3 games in the First Division and after a brief spell at non league Wellington Town he signed for Southend United in the summer 1922 after 7 goals in 29 appearances for The Blues. At Southend he missed only one game in his first season for The Shrimpers but in 1924 re-joined Wellington Town after scoring 13 goals in 70 matches.
