Bolton born winger Kenny Davenport started his football career with junior club Gilnow Rangers and had played for Bolton Wanderers for five years already by the time, as a founder member of The Football League, he played in their inaugural League fixture against Derby County scoring twice in a 3-6 home defeat and scoring Bolton’s first ever League goal, indeed coming in the first 5 minutes it was the first ever League goal. He scored 27 goals in 62 appearances after they became a League member, making his final appearance in October 1892 and joining Southport Central in 1893 before retirement. He played for England twice being first selected in March 1885 in a 1-1 draw against Wales at Blackburn, thereafter being selected as reserve twice in 1887 before being recalled in March 1890 and scoring twice in a 9-1 romp over Ireland in Belfast. He also played for the Lancashire FA on at least 6 occasions.
