Description
Auchterderran, Fife born wing half Wattie Currie signed for Cowdenbeath from junior club Denbeath Star in 1914, going on to play for East Fife in 1915 and signing the following year for Raith Rovers. In 1919 he was signed by Second Division Leicester Fosse (now City), joining his namesake Sam Currie (no relative) at Leicester, and making his debut in March 1920 at Stockport County. He played in half of Leicester’s matches the following season but only made one appearance in 1921-22 before joining Bristol Rovers during the summer after a single goal in 32 appearances. At Eastville he was an ever present during 1922-23 making in total 45 appearances, but he returned to Scotland at the end of the season to join then Scottish League club (now defunct) Clackmannan. The following season he joined Lochgelly United, also a Scottish League club at the time (in the Third Division).
