Description

Rutherglen, Lanarkshire born left half Alex Cross was a medical doctor who attended Rutherglen Academy before joining Scottish League amateur club Queen’s Park in 1938, making his Scottish League debut in a win over Arbroath in September 1938. He scored twice in 21 appearances before the outbreak of the Second World War, mainly playing at inside right, but he switched to left half during wartime football and played regularly throughout the War years as his military service allowed. He was part of The Spidern’ 1945 Glasgow Cup winning team that beat Clyde 2-0 in the Final, but he only made 3 further appearances in 1946-47 through to November 1946 before finishing his football career. In addition to his peacetime appearances he scored 7 goals in 219 wartime appearances.
