Description

Aston, Birmingham born left half Ben Craythorne started playing junior football with Small Heath Athletic in 1900 and played for Kidderminster Harriers in 1901, from where he joined Southern League Coventry City in 1902. He moved to Walsall in 1903 and then to First Division Notts County in 1904, making his Football League debut at Small Heath that September, immediately establishing himself as a first team regular.

An ever present in their 1905-06 campaign, he played ten seasons for The Magpies, making 30 or more appearances per season in the first eight of those, scoring 12 goals in 296 appearances but lost his place in 1912 as County were relegated to the Second Division and only played 4 more times during their Second Division Championship winning season as they immediately returned to the First Division, before moving to North Eastern League club Darlington in 1914. His career was then effectively ended by the First World War.
