Description

Ayr born inside forward David Copeland played for his local team Ayr Parkhouse in 1892 before joining Walsall Town Swifts in October 1893, making his debut in an FA Cup tie at Stourbridge in November that year, his Football League debut following against Liverpool, playing four seasons at Walsall where he featured in 82 matches scoring on 19 occasions.

After suffering a leg injury at Newton Heath (now Manchester United) in October 1897, he joined Southern League club Bedminster (later Bristol City) in July 1898, Copeland joined Tottenham Hotspur in the 1899 close season where he was a member of their 1899-1900 Southern League Championship winning team, and most famously played in their 1901 FA Cup winning side which beat Sheffield United in a replay.

After 76 goals in 226 matches for Spurs, he moved on to Chelsea in May 1905 and featured in 26 matches finding the net nine times. Copeland ended his career signing for Glossop North End in May 1907 where he made just two appearances for The Hillmen in September and October 1907, retiring in June 1908.
