Description

Sunderland born inside forward Jack Cook began his football career with South Bank in 1910 before joining Seaham Harbour in 1911, from whom signed for First Division Middlesbrough in November 1911, making his Football League debut against Arsenal in February 1912. He established himself in the ‘Boro team over the last two seasons before football was suspended due to the onset of the First World War, and on resumption of peacetime football following the War he joined Notts County in the summer of 1919 after 3 goals in 54 games at Ayresome Park.

In his first season at Meadow Lane Notts County were relegated into the Second Division, however he was part of the team that achieved a 3-0 “giant killing” FA Cup victory over League Champions West Bromwich Albion in January 1921, scoring one of the goals. He was also part of the Notts County team, scoring 3 times in 9 cup ties, that went all the way to the 1922 FA Cup semi final before losing to eventual winners Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Turf Moor.

He was part of the team that regained First Division status when Notts won the Second Division Championship in 1923. In total he stayed five seasons at Meadow Lane, scoring 18 times in 117 games before a move to Northampton Town in 1924. He played a final season for The Cobblers scoring twice in 20 matches before retiring from professional football in 1925, playing for non league Sneinton Thursday.
