Description

The more successful of a pair of brothers who both played for Port Vale, Blackley, Manchester born Ernest Collinge joined the Second Division club in May 1921 and made his debut in a Potteries derby match against Stoke in the North Staffordshire Infirmary Cup Final on 9th May, which Vale lost 5-3. He made his Football League debut for Port Vale at Leeds United in August 1921 missing only one game that season and being ever present the following season, scoring three League goals, including one in a 2-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford in October 1922. But he lost his place in Vale’s line up in January 1924 and despite regaining it for much of 1924-25, he played his final game for Vale in a defeat to Darlington in January 1926, his 150th appearance, he also scored 9 times including 5 penalties.

Younger brother Tom made a single appearance alongside his older brother in a 1-0 home win against Rotherham County in March 1922,
