Inside forward Jimmy Chorley played for Southern League Reading both sides of World War One, spending 1914-15 at Elm Park before the War and (to knowledge) first playing for The Royals when they played against Zwtluwen in Holland in May 1914 in a match to mark the opening of a new stadium (The Netherlands Sports Park) in Amsterdam. He scored 12 goals in 38 appearances during the 1914-15 season before World War One interrupted his Reading career, but he also featured in 12 more matches duringthe 1919-20 Southern League season, although he had left the club by the time that Reading joined The Football League in the summer of 1920.
