Description

Most likely an amateur footballer, Lewisham, London born right back Ernest Frank Champion, known as Frank, played for London League club Catford Southend after the First World War from where he joined Third Division (South) club Charlton Athletic in 1923, making his Football League debut in a 1-0 defeat at Swansea Town on 1st December 1923. He retained his place for the return fixture a week later, when Swansea again ran out winners with a 3-1 victory at The Valley, however these were to prove his only senior matches. Champion returned to play for Catford Southend in 1924 before a move to Kent League club Tunbridge Wells Rangers in 1925, where he played for several seasons, his last known club before he left football.
