West Ham born wing half George Carter joined his local club West Ham United from junior football after World War One and made his Football League debut at Fulham in October 1919. He scored his only goal the following season at Leeds United and would play 155 times over 8 seasons at The Hammers without ever nailing down his place in the team, the most he appeared being in 29 games in both 1925-26 and 1926-27. He played 4 matches in West Ham’s cup run leading to their 1923 Wembley defeat to Bolton Wanderers but he didn’t make the Final team. In 1927 he joined Fulham but never played in their first team, whereupon he went non league with Grays Thurrock United.
