Description

Cambois, Northumberland born right back Billy Carr began his football career with Seaton Delaval and joined Derby County while still a Second Division club, making his Football League debut at Swansea Town in February 1926, playing at centre half, his only appearance in The Rams’ successful promotion season, as they finished runners up in the Second Division to secure top flight status. The following season Carr appeared 21 times during the campaign as Derby consolidated their promotion with a respectable mid-table finish, coming into the team at the end of December, he featured consistently for the rest of the season. He followed it up with his most productive season in 1927-28, when he made 37 appearances as Derby finished fourth in the League Championship.

Carr made a further 24 appearances as The Rams finished runners up in the League Championship in 1929-30, but thereafter spent four seasons as a fringe player at The Baseball Ground, mustering only a dozen further first team appearances, before joining Queen’s Park Rangers in 1935 after 109 appearances for Derby, spending two seasons at Loftus Road where he made 28 appearances. He spent 1937-38 on the books of Barrow, without making a first team appearance, before retiring from professional football.
