Description

Centre half Bill Caddick was born in March 1903 at Wellington in Shropshire and came to the attention of Second Division Wolverhampton Wanderers playing for hometown club Wellington Town, whom he’d joined in 1919. He made his Football League debut at Stoke in March 1921 shortly before Wolves’ third FA Cup Final appearance when they lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur (they had surprisimgly beaten the legendary 1900’s team of Newcastle United in 1908 on their second appearance, having also appeared against Everton in the 1893 Final). At that time he had only played 3 times for the first team and wasn’t selected for the.Final.

Despite Cup success Wolves were struggling in the Second Division and were relegated in 1923. Caddick was appointed Club Captain in succession to Val Gregory and led them immediately back to The Second Division as they won The Third Division (North) Championship in 1924. However he lost his regular place in 1925 and continued to play for Wolves until September 1926, whereupon he retired from the professional game returning to Wellington Town in 1927 after 154 appearances and 4 goals for Wolves.
