Goalkeeper James Brown started his football career with Petershill, from where he signed for Airdrieonians in 1912, making 110 appearances for The Diamonds before joining Raith Rovers early in their 1915-16 campaign. He made 181 appearances for Raith through to 1924, and was on the ship famously wrecked off the coast of Spain en route to South America for Raith’s 1923 summer tour. He joined Clydebank in 1924 and also had a spell at Dunfermline Athletic but didn’t make either’s first team before his retirement.
