Logie Buchan, Aberdeenshire born centre half George “Dod” Brewster joined junior club Mugiemoss in 1911 moving to local professional club Aberdeen in January 1913. He made his Scottish League debut in a game against Celtic in February 1913, and soon became a big favourite at Pittodrie. During the First World War, during which he served in France with the 15th Division, Royal Engineers, and was awarded the Military Medal in 1918, Brewster guested for Ayr United in 1918 and Falkirk in 1919. After scoring 9 goals in 119 appearances for Aberdeen, he was sold to Everton for (at least) £1,500 (some estimates are as high as £2,400) in January 1920, then a record fee, making his Football League debut against Sheffield Wednesday the same month.
He played for Everton for four seasons scoring 4 goals in 68 appearances, and won a single cap for Scotland while at Goodison, playing in Scotland’s 3-0 win over England at Hampden Park in April 1921, before joining Second Division Wolverhampton Wanderers in November 1922, where he played 13 matches for Wolves during the remainder of the 1922-23 season, at the end of which they were relegated. Brewster went on to play for Lovell’s Athletic in Wales in early 1923, helping them to win the Western League title, and then for Wallasey Athletic later in 1923, before crossing the Atlantic to play for Brooklyn Athletic of New York from March to June 1924. From August 1924 he had a spell as player-manager at Caledonian, which later merged with Inverness to form Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
