Description
Hamilton, Lanarkshire born winger John Boylen began his football career with Newmains Juniors immediately after the First World War and was playing in junior Scottish football for Wishaw when Third Division (North) Lincoln City signed him in October 1921, with his Football League debut at Barrow days later. He established himself as a Lincoln regular for two seasons, playing 61 times and scoring 4 goals, before a move to Wigan Borough in May 1923. However he only played once for Wigan in a draw at Hartlepools United that September before a move to Grimsby Town in January 1924, where he still only managed 4 appearances in January and February, and was not retained by Grimsby at the end of the season, whereupon he returned to Scottish football with Scottish League Second Division club Armadale.
