Description
Outside left John Borland played for Hibernian in the mid 1930’s after signing for the Easter Road club from Glasgow junior club Shawfield in 1934. He was described in 1935 as “of considerable promise… a strongly built youth and has fine freedom of movement in getting the ball from the wing into the goal-mouth.” He made his Scottish League debut in a 3-1 win over Hamilton Academical in August 1934, scoring one of the goals, and played 16 times in 1934-35, scoring five more goals. But having played in a League game against St Johnstone at the start of the 1935-36 season, his only appearance of the season, he never played for the first team again.
